Our new home will be designed and furnished with a Japanese Minimalist / Japanese Scandinavian theme. I have been sourcing for quality wooden furniture that suits the look we’re going for but good quality wood furniture pieces at affordable prices are not easy to find in Singapore.
I’ve been following Wihardja Furniture on Facebook for more than a year because their furniture, especially the saur wood tables and customised saur wood furniture, looked good but it never occurred to me to check out their prices. I assumed that they would be unaffordable and out of reach. I had never imagined that furniture found in Singapore would be anywhere near the price range that could change my mind about shipping furniture in from China / Malaysia but I really did find some at Wihardja Furniture. It’s a relief to be able to save the trouble and risk of shipping in my furniture and I deeply appreciate the opportunity to be able to feel, see and test furniture in person.
About Wihardja Furniture
Wihardja Furniture is a local brand. They have been around since the 90s, specialising in teakwood furniture and teakwood furnishings. They have they have two showrooms in Singapore – one at Enterprise One in Kaki Bukit and another at Toh Guan Road East. Their factory is located in Central Java.
Furniture pieces from Wihardja is not limited to the balinese style. They have furniture and furnishing ranges to suit different styles like Rustic, Natural, Industrial, Contemporary and Resort. I like it most that their wood top is not lacquered (if there are any damage, you need to re-laquer the whole piece) but waxed for easy maintenance on our own.
At the blogger’s event I attended, we received confirmation that wood for making furniture from Wihardja are sourced responsibly – they do not condone the use of ‘slash and burn’ technique for the clearing of lands for cultivation.
All shipments are sent directly from their factory in Central Java to customers, which cuts out the middle man / retailers and hence they are able to offer customers with quality teak furniture at prices that are not out of reach.
Furniture pieces that caught my eye
When you visit the showrooms please, take your time to soak in the atmosphere and stroll along. I found surprises at every corner.
From very affordable posters ($15-$29)..
To quirky furnishing..
Striking feature pieces that can also be useful..
To furniture of unusual shapes..
And plenty of statement pieces..
My favouritest of them all are the teakwood furniture and saur wood pieces of course. After all, Wihardja specialises in these. Spot anything you like?
If you want to get technical
Besides being affordable, I find that some of the staff are very knowledgable. Feel free to approach the staff at Wihardja for knowledge about wood furniture.
If you see available stock in their showroom, furniture can usually be received in a week. Otherwise a new / customised piece of furniture will be made in their factory in Central Java and delivered to you between 60 to 90 days.
If you need customised furniture of specific measurements for your home or spot furniture in catalogue you’d like to customise to your taste, you can bring a picture to Wihardja and they’ll see what they can do for you.
