Ganban-yoku Therapy (岩盤浴) at Anti-Oxidant Centre + Giveaway & Readers’ Promotion! [ Giveaway Completed ]

I feel myself swell up significantly once in a while because of water retention but I know just the thing to bring it down – drink a lot of water, gradually. The other way of dropping the water weight / swelling / detoxing is, logically, to sweat it out.

Ganban-yoku Therapy (岩盤浴) is a rock bathing spa treatment where you lie on heated natural granite tile beds that release infrared rays and negative ions in a room temperature of 40°C with a humidity of 20% to 40%. I am told that benefits of the Ganban-yoku therapy includes:

(1) neutralise the effect of ageing and disease-causing free radicals
(2) increase metabolic rates
(3) burn calories (a 1-hour session of Ganban-yoku Therapy is supposed to burn 500 calories, the equivalent of running for 5km)
(4) reduce cholestrol levels
(5) relieve pain caused by rheumatism

This therapy is available in Singapore at the Anti-Oxidant Centre along Upper Thompson Road (exact address below). I was very keen to introduce the hubs to this because of the health benefits, so I arranged for us to go together for a pampering session on our wedding anniversary. ✌

Mr Wong, learning about Ganban-yoku Therapy.

First we changed into yutaka pajamas. Then, we were each given a bottle of anti-oxidant water and told to drink half before going for our therapy.

Initially, the therapy stone beds felt hot, although not overbearingly so. After a few minutes, we got so comfortable we started to… take photos!

To maximise the benefits of Ganban-yoku Therapy, we were told to and turn ourselves such that different parts of our skin is exposed to the tiled beds – the exact phrase used was “peng kang” or “barbecue”. If you want, you can lay a towel over the tile bed, that’s what we did.

Right after our therapy session ended. Check out the hub’s yutaka yo, so totally drenched with sweat!

After therapy, our outfits were entirely drenched with sweat (bye bye water weight!) and my cheeks were pounding from the significantly improved blood circulation. There was a noticeable rosy glow on my face which is not unusual if you go into a heated environment for some time, the amazing thing is the change I felt in my skin texture, it’s significantly smoother and softer.

After a therapy session, you will get 2 cups of Enzyme Juice (S$12 a bottle, if you’re interested to tabao), made fresh at the spa centre. They are served cold in a little glass cup and very refreshing to take after the therapy. My favourite is the lemongrass one!

I used to go for hot yoga classes regularly so I was very keen to try their ganban-yoga. Due to my own time constrains, I went for their intermediate class when I felt like the beginners’ class would suit better. The pace is a little fast for me and I need more guidance to make sure I’m in the right position but the work out was incredibly satisfying – I was sweating profusely (I finally understand how “sweating buckets” came about) and my body was well and truly stretched from the work out. Every ganban-yoga session includes a 15 minute therapy session at the end, it’s really the perfect way to wind down from the exercise.

Here are my before and after ganban-yoga photos. See if you spot any difference!

Not shy to show you my postpartum tummy. Left photo was taken before my yoga session and Right photo was after. I swear I didn’t suck in my tummy!

The interior of Anti-Oxidant Centre is painted with Anti-Oxidant Home Building solution (“AO Solution”), which produces microbes that reacts with and neutralises positively charged free radicals in our environment and bodies. The effect is so powerful that even raw foods left in the open for years will not rot and decay. There is a plate of raw egg and a plate of bread that has been left at the Anti-Oxidant Centre for a long time and there is no smell nor any sign of rotting or decay. You really gotta see it for yourself!

Doing the smell test!

The AO solution can be mixed into paints, concrete, plaster and applied over wood, so you create the environment at the Anti-Oxidant Centre in your own home. FYI, the estimated cost of the AO solution supplies for a large room of 4x4m is S$590. Clients who purchase the Anti-Oxidant Home Building solution are invited to conduct their own raw egg experiment in their own homes. A three-month money back guarantee (terms and conditions applies) is promised if the egg decays in the anti-oxidant room. If you maintain the paint well, you can keep the negative ions active for at least five years, giving you a healthy rest, healthy life. We are considering it for our new home!

TIPS

✮ Sweating flushes toxins out from your skin, so try not to put on waterproof make up (or any if you can help it) when you’re having a session.

✮ It is recommended not to shower within two hours after the treatment to gain the most benefits to the skin and hair. Both the hubs and I didn’t shower after our therapy session but strangely, although we perspired so much during the 1 hour session, there was no odour or stickiness from the perspiration.

✮ You can perm your hair (if you want) by twisting it into a bun on top of your head while in the therapy room. Or, you can take the opportunity to put on a hair mask while in the therapy room and come out with soft hair.
